Man in His 20s Arrested for Threatening Internet Broadcaster with Weapon in Ansan

A man in his twenties has been arrested in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, for threatening an internet broadcaster with a weapon and injuring a responding police officer.

The Ansan Sangnok Police Station announced on the 14th that they had taken into custody a man, identified only as A, on charges of aggravated assault, unlawful confinement, and attempted murder.

According to authorities, A allegedly threatened and injured a female internet broadcaster with a weapon at a restaurant in Sangnok-gu, Ansan, around 5:30 PM on the 12th. Police were alerted to the scene following a report of a man assaulting a woman.

Upon arrival, officers discovered A inside the restaurant, holding a weapon while grasping the victim's neck. After a prolonged standoff, police managed to subdue him by feigning an offer of water and then swiftly disarming him.

During the altercation, one officer sustained a hand injury from the weapon and required medical treatment. The female victim also suffered minor injuries, including abrasions.

Investigators revealed that A and the victim had initially met through internet broadcasting. A had previously worked as a moderator for the victim's chat room but reportedly quit following a recent dispute. Subsequently, their conflict escalated, with both parties engaging in mutual disparagement in online forums.

As tensions persisted, the victim sought advice from the Cyber Police about filing a defamation complaint against A. She disclosed this information during her personal broadcast on the 12th. Enraged by this revelation, A allegedly plotted the attack against the victim.
