Randy Quaid, star of the 1990 hit 'Days of Thunder,' has publicly aired his grievances about the upcoming sequel. The veteran actor took particular aim at the casting of Tom Cruise and Anne Hathaway, insisting that Nicole Kidman, the original female lead, should reprise her role.

On August 29, Quaid took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his unfiltered thoughts on the sequel. He emphatically stated that Kidman's return is crucial, arguing for the importance of maintaining continuity with the original cast.

In a bold move, Quaid called out Cruise directly, urging him not to "act like a coward" and emphasizing the need for the original female lead. He was quick to clarify that his comments were rooted in filmmaking principles rather than personal grudges.

Quaid's remarks about Hathaway were particularly scathing. He made inappropriate comments about her appearance and pregnancy, and questioned her suitability for the role based on her perceived political leanings.

The actor argued that Hathaway's "left-leaning" and "woke" tendencies might alienate the core 'Days of Thunder' audience, especially NASCAR fans and MAGA supporters. He suggested that Kidman would be a more appropriate match for Cruise, adding, "Nicole Kidman should be the sexy, older actress paired with Tom in this movie. That's the ticket to box office success."

The term "woke," increasingly prevalent in American pop culture debates, refers to awareness of social and political issues, particularly those related to marginalized groups.

Quaid's criticism extended beyond casting to the production process itself. He reminisced about the original film's rushed editing, with editors working round-the-clock shifts to meet deadlines.

Expressing concern about the sequel's production timeline, Quaid quipped, "It's like they're racing to release a flop this time around."

As of now, neither Paramount Global nor Hathaway's representatives have responded to Variety's request for comment on Quaid's statements.

'Days of Thunder,' directed by Tony Scott, is a beloved racing drama starring Tom Cruise as promising NASCAR driver Cole Trickle. Quaid played Tim Daland, the team owner who recruits Trickle.

The original film featured Nicole Kidman as Dr. Claire Lewicki, Cole's physician and love interest. The star-studded cast also included Robert Duvall, Cary Elwes, and John C. Reilly, cementing its place as a classic racing film.

The 'Days of Thunder' sequel, currently in production with Cruise at the helm and Hathaway confirmed to star, is slated for a June 2, 2028 release. Quaid's public outcry has ignited speculation about potential behind-the-scenes drama and cast dynamics as production moves forward.
