Maggie Smith Bequeaths Approximately 16 Million GBP (approximately 300 billion KRW or 21.9 million USD) to Her Two Sons

Beloved British actress Maggie Smith, renowned for her role in the Harry Potter franchise, has left an estimated inheritance of 16 million GBP (approximately 300 billion KRW or 21.9 million USD) to her two sons, as revealed nearly two years after her passing.

British media outlets, including The Sun, reported on the 25th (local time) that Smith's inheritance records had been made public. According to these documents, Smith's net worth was valued at around 16 million GBP (approximately 300 billion KRW or 21.9 million USD).

As per Smith's will, the majority of her estate will be equally divided between her two sons, actors Toby Stephens and Christopher Stephens. The family trust, which she established with her sons in 2019, also includes their residence located in Petworth, West Sussex.

However, Smith's will stipulated that the rights to copyrights, royalties, and unpublished works associated with her second husband, playwright Beverley Cross, would be distributed separately. The income from these rights is set to benefit Cross's children and grandchildren.

Born in 1934 in Ilford, Essex, England, Smith made her stage debut at 17 at the Oxford Playhouse. She went on to build an illustrious career spanning film, theater, and television.

Smith clinched the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1970 for her performance in "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie," and secured her second Oscar in 1979 for "California Suite."

To fans worldwide, she is perhaps best known as Professor Minerva McGonagall from the Harry Potter series. Smith portrayed the beloved character from "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" in 2001 through to "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2" in 2011.

Smith's personal life saw her marry actor Robert Stephens in 1967, with whom she had two sons before their divorce. She later wed playwright Beverley Cross in the mid-1970s. Cross passed away in 1998.

Maggie Smith, born in 1934, died at the age of 89 in a London hospital in September 2024.
