Super Junior's Choi Siwon has addressed the recent controversy surrounding his bandmate Kim Heechul's comments about an Incheon city banner commemorating Korea's Liberation Day.

Taking to his personal social media account on the 11th, Choi responded to a fan's post expressing disappointment over Kim's apology. "Having known him for 23 years, I can say we understand each other very well," Choi wrote.

He continued, "Lately, he's been trying to be more considerate, possibly due to age and a growing sense of social responsibility. His attempt at politeness may have obscured his true intentions for many." Choi added, "We're meeting next week, so I'll get the full story then in our 'truth room.'"

The controversy began when Kim Heechul criticized a banner in Incheon celebrating the 81st Liberation Day. The banner featured an independence activist holding the Korean flag, but some argued the flag's design appeared reversed. Kim initially lambasted the image as "ridiculous," with Choi also reacting with a flag emoji.

Incheon city officials later clarified that the banner depicted a view looking up at an activist waving the flag. Following this, Kim apologized, admitting, "I reacted hastily without fully grasping the image. My lack of spatial awareness led to this clear mistake. I'm sorry."

Choi Siwon, however, maintained his stance on the 10th. Sharing various Liberation Day commemorative images alongside Incheon's banner, he stated, "I believe it's more responsible to acknowledge and rectify mistakes rather than just offer explanations."
