Japanese Trainee Vanishes Before Debut, Six-Member K-Pop Group Debuts as Five

In a shocking turn of events, a 29-year-old Japanese trainee, known only as A, disappeared just before the scheduled debut of his K-pop group. The incident has led to fraud charges and the group's unexpected debut as a quintet.

Yonhap News reported on the 4th that Seoul's Yeongdeungpo Police Station has referred A to the prosecution on fraud charges. The trainee remains at large.

According to police and agency sources, A vanished last December, merely two months before the group's planned debut, leaving behind a cryptic message about broken trust. Despite having completed their music video and revealed the members' identities, the agency was forced to debut the group with only five members.

The agency later uncovered that A had engaged in "double contracting," signing with multiple agencies simultaneously. Legal action was initiated in March. "A repeatedly absconded to Japan after securing substantial investments from Korean agencies, just as activities were set to begin," the agency stated.

The agency claims damages of approximately 57.43 million KRW (roughly 43,072 USD) due to A's disappearance. This sum encompasses training costs, music production expenses, recording fees, meal allowances, and accommodation expenses.

Following the agency's complaint, Yeongdeungpo Police imposed a travel ban on A and are continuing their investigation. This restriction prevents A from leaving South Korea, where he is currently believed to be residing.
