Choi Si-won Takes a Stand: Voices Support for Re-election Protests

Super Junior member Choi Si-won has publicly thrown his support behind the ongoing re-election protest movement.

On the 23rd, Choi shared footage of the protests at Seoul's Olympic Park via his personal social media account. He stated, "Bolstering faith in our electoral process isn't about partisan politics—it's about safeguarding South Korea's democracy as a whole."

The video captures citizens braving the rain in raincoats and umbrellas, waving both South Korean and American flags as they demonstrate.

Choi emphasized, "To ensure public confidence in elections and guarantee that every citizen's vote counts, we need absolute transparency and rigorous oversight of all electoral procedures." He added, "These individuals, raising their voices despite the inclement weather, are the very citizens fighting to protect the sanctity of our democracy and the power of each vote." Choi further expressed his hope that "the sincerity and efforts of these protesters won't be trivialized or mischaracterized by any particular rhetoric or narrative."

Previously, on the 22nd, Choi had posted three South Korean flag emojis on another video of the Olympic Park protests. When a fan commented on the honor of being a fellow South Korean citizen, Choi replied, "I'm simply proud and honored to be a South Korean." Another supporter praised him as a "patriot against communism" writing from Taiwan rather than "Dog Korea," to which Choi responded, "I'll do my utmost to return home with honor."

However, Choi was quick to shut down any speculation about a potential political career. When someone suggested he run for office in the Jamsil district, he humbly replied, "That's far too generous. I'm not qualified for such a role."

Despite his celebrity status, Choi has consistently shown a willingness to engage with politically charged topics. In February, on the day of former President Yoon Suk Yeol's initial trial verdict, he shared two Chinese idioms: "Injustice is doomed to perish" and "The collapse of the earth and the crumbling of tiles." This sparked political controversy and a wave of criticism, prompting Choi to recently announce his intention to take legal action against unfounded attacks.
